Idol Gravure continues to evolve, time following time, compressed and waiting, in the Japanese way. For the Japan Idol Gravure Otaku, it is still Spring.
Our favorite girls, 北村ひとみ Hitomi Kitamura and 夏目理緒 Rio Natsume are still strong and vital. Rio-chan has been more active in the past 1+ year, while Hitomi has bee more involved in music and television projects.
New goddesses have entered my pantheon: 吉沢さりぃ Sarii Yoshizawa is a bouncy to rival H-chan. 岡田真由香 Mayuka Okada has a sophisticated command reminiscent of gravure pioneer 細川ふみえ Fumie Hosokawa.
藤子まい Mai Fujiko was first presented as the "ugly idol"; look at her now and remember to breathe. And 麻見優 Yuu Asami, while not the prettiest face, displays possibly the most worship-worthy nipples I have ever seen.
We've seen some drift to full JAV, starting with another of my personal goddesses, 青木りん Rin Aoki, The trend continues to follow the money.

Hitomi-chan Bakes a Cake
Air Control's latest from 北村ひとみ Hitomi Kitamura is called つぶらなひとみ "Tsubura na Hitomi", which I have translated to mean "The Complete Hitomi" or "Money Hitomi." While it may not present Hitomi-chan definitively, it is on-the-money gravure. But it depends what you like.
For fans of pure idol gravure, Hitomi's producers recognize that H-chan has reached the top levels of J-Idols, as popular as 夏目理緒 Rio Natsume, 松金洋子 Yoko Matsugane, or the titanic-chested 風子 Fuko. The production values of "Tsubura na Hitomi" are fine, working within the confines of an already fully-matured genre. But to answer the question that slobbering perverts like me want to know ... Alas, there are NO views of her awesome nipples in this one. They do allow some little more nipple contures to show through her garments, and even some dark shadows to shine through her lower garments. Some attempt is made to get H bouncing again too, but not with the jiggly abandon of some earlier efforts. Certainly no new idol gravure ground has been discovered here.
What has been done superbly well is capturing Hitomi's breathtaking natural beauty and presence, which elevates the ordinary to the memorable. The old cosplay ("costume play") standby of girl in the kitty ears and tail is rolled out; what could be a boring and embarrassing pretense becomes utterly charming when Hitomi performs it, her playfulness and enthusiasm winning you over. Watch her eyes peeking from behind the couch and you will see why I am an Asian specialist. Other chapters include the usual in-the-kitchen and showering-in-her bikini scenes. The obligatory "interview" segments are surprisingly animated visually, as Hitomi answers the usual questions while alighted atop some kind of vibrating baby bull-riding device, all the time maintaining a straight face.
Possibly the best is saved for the "Special Contents" segment at the end, a now-obligatory feature of gravure video as automatic as an encore at a rock concert, deserved or not. But here, Hitomi talks and demonstrates various Latin dance moves, and later shows out-takes from the kitchen scene, and it's fascinating; you get the feel of a real woman, just having fun with the camera. Take note of her delicious eye makeup as she bakes a microwave cake, wearing an impossibly short hooded sweater. Sounds ridiculas, and it is, but Hitomi has the charisma to pull it off as few others can.
Hitomi has yet another new video coming July 27, 2007, titled "Sweetie," the lettering rendered in English on the cover. AND, they even released a J-pop music single from our girl, ひとP→☆トランス～ゆれちゃうひとみ～. Look for it on YouTube. Not a classic, however.

New Hitomi 06-25-2007
The video label Air Control has posted a new 北村 ひとみ Hitomi Kitamura video in it's future releases section, debuting June 25, 2007. This is the second Hitomi release on Air Control, the company that gave us 二十歳の瞳 "Hatachi no Hitomi", which the torrent community defines as "Twenty Year-Old Eyes." Titled つぶらなひとみ, "Tsubura na Hitomi," it shows again that her tricky handlers are certainly fond of homographs, words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. I had to search "tsubura" to piece together a definition.
The Kanji form of "tsubura" is 円, which you may recognize as the symbol for "yen", the basic Japanese unit of currency, but it has other meanings as well. It turns out that "tsubura" is mainly a pronunciation for names, but the intent here is the multiple layers of meaning. Most basically, it means "circle". Shades of meaning include "whole" and "complete". I think Hitomi's handlers mean to say "The Complete Hitomi" and "Money Hitomi", neatly defying an easy English translation. I think they also allude to her perfect round hips. This, er, "inscrutability" is one of the reasons I love the Japanese, who I now call my people.
"Hatachi no Hitomi" contains the most revealing scenes Hitomi-chan has ever released, including what I am confident are the first tiniest glimpses of her Awesomes, her glorious nipples. From 23:22 to 27:28 is the superb "overalls" scene, several times during which her Lovlies are clearly visible. At about 25:56, 26:11, and 26:17 to 26:19, we see her thick and yummy nipples. I cannot conceive of a more perfect looking woman than Hitomi Kitamura. Except for maybe Kaori Ohara. Oh God, it hurts.
Somebody out there actually put out one of Hitomi's older videos, "Melon Chan!", as a torrent, so I am downloading that now.

Yuna's Latest
It's no secret that far too many Westerners are overweight, an inevitable consequence of affluent societies, it seems. The Japanese are growing too, taller, bigger, and unfortunately for some, fatter. Years ago, truly busty women were relatively rare in east Asia; not anymore. Every passing year brings us bigger and bolder "bomber" girls, as the Js sometimes call big breasted AV idols.
かわせゆな Yuna Kawase, one of the biggest and boldest, comes back with 満乳 Mannyu, "Full Breasts." It's exciting stuff, but rather frustrating at the same time. The cover of the DVD tells the whole story of what Yuna offers: big curves and rather amateurish. And what boobs .... Yuna-chan was blessed with the proverbial Guns of Navarone. With vital statistics of B:41 W:23 H:34 at 4'11" tall, Yuna is the classic short and fully-loaded package. She also fits one of the most popular fetish categories in Japan, ロリタ Lolita, a.k.a. Loli, the child-woman.
"Full Breasts" presents it's subject in the now-familiar Yuna style, i.e., let it all hang out, artlessly. Yuna was blessed physically, but was ripped-off in the charisma department. There's just no magic in her eyes, no heart-melt in her smile. While she is clearly very comfortable being (almost) nude in front of people and on camera, she comes off more like someone at a nudist camp than a gravure idol goddess. And there's the rub (ha!); almost nude.
As I've noted previously, Yuna's handlers present her completely naked except the concealed tips of her nipples and the crease of her snatch, and the effect is kind of ridiculous. To be fair, this style seems to be in vogue right now in Idol Gravure, and I can't tell you why the J's like it. Some say that many Japanese men find little peaks at the goodies to be sexier than full nudity. For me, I like the tease as much as the next guy, but I want delivery of the goods in the end, and the extreme giri-giri girls never finally deliver.
And why do they have to cover her nipples so childishly? Smilely stickers, tufts of fake fur, bunches of fake fruit. Maybe the producers are just trying to be creative, or even self-deprecating, but the effect is juvenile. Compare this to the supreme confidence and strength of 小田有纱 Arisa Oda, and it's almost embarrasing. Or try the hypnotic command of 北村ひとみ Hitomi Kitamura or 夏目理緒 Rio Natsume; there's the difference of the great ones.
Don't get me wrong, I like Yuna very much, and I recommend this video. They find more ways to push, bounce and squish her lovelies than any monk could ignore. And she really has a cute rear too. And ... this video feels like the last stuff 青木りん Rin Aoki did before she suddenly made the jump to full AV.

What's the point of gravure?
The Japanese are the way they are due to a combination of heritage and circumstances, as probably we all are. For Japan, their strength has always been the ability to recognize what is already good from foreign sources and perfect it, effectively making it their own. Examples include the 刀 katana, the samurai sword learned from China; 禅 "zen", Zen Buddhism, also from China and maybe Korea; and 車 "kuruma", the automobile, learned from America et al. They also learned the glamour business from the West, through the filter of the uniquely obtuse morality imposed by the post WW II Occupation. Concerning what is very broadly called 水商売 mizu shobai, "water trade", this is the Japanese world of nightlife and sex business, which by long extension includes gravure. To greatly simplify it, Japanese AV is censored partly because the Occupation imposed that on them, but maybe more so because that's the way they want it.
北村ひとみ Hitomi Kitamura's new video, やわらかなひとみ Yawaraka na Hitomi, "Soft Hitomi" is a classic of the gravure genre, but not a step forward creatively. As anticipated, it is seriously giri giri, but could have been so much more. The successful part includes Hitomi-chan's always amazing charisma, skillfully captured by directors who recognize her "charm points", as the Js call one's physical attributes and personal appeal. The unfortunate part includes a failure to build on what has set Hitomi apart so far, that is, bouncing her awesome breasts. NOBODY bounces 'em like Hitomi-chan.
Don't get me wrong, this is better than the last release, "Nittlegenic 2006 Graduation - Memories" (they wrote it in English), which looked and felt more like a debut video than the fourth or fifth release of a major gravure star. But at least "Graduation" had a breif nod to bouncing, which Hitomi-chan made immortal in her 2006 video, ゆれる想い Yureru Omoi, what the torrent community translates as "Breasts of Love". Several scenes in the past, there was the hintiest hint of a nipple, but in "Soft Hitomi" they tease the heck out of us by showing the first incontrovertable edge of her Awesomes, the darkness of her areola clearly visible for the briefest glimpse. Overall, it is a great idol video.
However ......... For reasons I cannot guess at, most of the biggest gravure girls NEVER allow any more than the faintest whisper of a hintiest hint of their nipples to show, no matter how much boob flesh they otherwise show readily. An extreme, absurd example is かわせゆな Yuna Kawase, who is a gorgeous, voluptuous girl. Her handlers make her cover only the tips of her nipples and the crease of her snatch (which to be accurate, the Occupation prohibition against dipicting genitals would ban anyway). Otherwise, she is completely nude.
Enter 岡田真由香 Yuraka Okuda, whose bustline clocks in at 43 inches. Her newly released video, ニプル パラダイス ”Nipple Paradise" boldly displays Yuraka's concealed BIG nipples, high beams through tee shirts, bikinis and sweaters. Despite some ham-handed framings, her perfect ass, flat in the classic Japanese way, is feature prominently, demanding to be seen and recognized. Nipping-out is an audacious display in gravure.

New Hitomi Kitamura Video
As previously reported, I am anxiously awaiting the new Hitomi Kitamura video, and Oh Baby! I finally found the torrent on a Chinese chat board. Had to convert "hitomi" to a kanji, since there's no hiragana in Chinese. It has not hit the English language boards yet.
It's called 北村ひとみ やわらかなひとみ. The first part says Hitomi Kitamura. The second part rendered phonetically in English is "Yawaraka na Hitomi." Translating idomatic Japanese is every bit as difficult as it is in English, plus the Japanese love a good play on words. "Yawaraka" means something like "tender, soft" or "gentle, mild" or "flexible, supple," so I'm going to translate it as: Soft Hitomi.
And she is soft and supple, to be sure. I also found a review with vid captures on a Japanese language site, and ohhhhhhhhhhhh, it looks good. Seriously giri giri. I'm hoping to post the first review of it in English on the web. The torrent is new and fast, so I should have it within 24 hours.
Hitomi-chan will be 22 years old in July, which is actually about average for the biggest gravure idols. Rio Natsume and Rin Aoki both just turned 22 in February. Kaori Ohara is 31 and still awesome, maybe my all-time favorite.
Another very popular idol is かでなれおん Reon Kadena (a.k.a. Leon Kadena), who just turned 21 in February. Reon is interesting in that she is a halfer, i.e. she is half Japanese and half Pakistani (I think, at least according to one source I've seen). Here are some other popular idol J-girls:

There is a whole other class of models known as Junior Idols, and like the name implies, they are young girls, many in the 15 to 17 year old range, but some as young as 10. Some even younger. It's a phenomenon that would be totally unthinkable in most of the English-speaking world, but ... I've seen some surprising things on the Spanish language network Univision. Japan Idol Gravure
Since nobody will ever read this blog, I will talk about whatever I feel like, I guess. My favorite two subjects in the world are things Asian (I am a Japan specialist) and music (I am a rock & roll specialist). For anyone who is any kind of fan of the Japanese modeling scene, you will recognize Idol Gravure.
Let me start with a list of my current favorite J-girls:

大原かおり Kaori Ohara
If you know any of these girls, you've already figured out I am a complete SUCKER for big-breasted Asian girls, and well, ALL Asian girls for that matter. (Note that I will write Asian names in the native way, i.e., family name first, given name second. For some reason, Japanese names are usually inverted when rendered in English, while Chinese and Korean names are not. So I've stuck with this convention to minimize confusion.)
Rin Aoki has actually crossed over into what they call JAV = Japanese Adult Video, but I think she's awesome. Eri Kisaragi has only one video to my knowledge, and she gets nude in that one. Hitomi Kitamura and Rio Natsume do what is known as "giri giri" videos, which means "almost nude," more or less. Kaori Ohara first appeared on a Japanese late-night television show called "Mini Skirt Police," a variety of progamming unique to Japan which is just an excuse to showcase gorgeous girls. Kaori has the most dynamic look of any model I can think of; she looks different in every photograph. I have never seen a video of her, not even on Mini Skirt Police (she was on the show before I lived in Japan). I did see two TV commercials she appeared in on YouTube; she bounces her boobs like nobody's business. I feel funny just thinking about it.
"Gravure" comes from "photogravure," a type a printing process, and is Japanese pop-speak for sexy but more or less non-nude model photographs and videos. There is a great deal of debate out there amongst the Idol "otaku" (a charitable definition is "enthusiast," but it also means something like "nerd" or "weirdo".) as to whether giri giri or full nudity is better; I am firmly (Ha!) in the Full Nudity camp.
The non-Japanese Asian model girl scene has many awe-inspiring girls as well. Here are some of my favorites:

Arielle Lee (Chinese American)
Lee Serey (Cambodian American)
Kathy Liu (probably Thai, but I've never seen any definitive word on that.)
Kathy Liu (who is known by many names, depending on who she is modeling for), first came to prominence on an Asian nude model site called Asian4You.com, now gone from the web. She has done some AV (adult video) as well, but mostly explicit nude modeling. She may be retired now. Arielle Lee does my favorite style of modeling, which is full nude, but no "toys," no preposturous posing, just showcasing her awesome charisma. Interestingly, Arielle is more effective in still photography than in video, but that is probably due to the home-movie quality of her videos. Lee Serey is not well-known, mostly modeling for minor sites, but I love her. Anissa Tong has been M.I.A. for awhile. What I LOVE about her are her glorious full hips. Linda Dinh (a.k.a. Linda Thi Dinh) has also been more or less AWOL, but she maintains a site that is perpetually under construction. I'll wait, she's worth it. Linda and Anissa are well-known on the "race girl" scene, girls who stand next to cars at automobile shows and the like.
Hitomi Kitamura just released a new video on April 20, 2007. I am anxiously waiting for it to appear on the torrent sites; I have high hopes she gets even more giri giri than in her 2006 videos. Rio Natsume just released two videos in January 2007, and seems ready to make the transition to nude (Gosh I hope so). I dispair that Kaori Ohara will probably never do nude, but you never know in Japan ... some of the most unlikely celebrities have surprised everyone by suddenly releasing nude photobooks, another uniquely Japanese phenomenon. I especially like the books by the enka sing known as 紫艶, Shien. She shocked the heck out of the VERY conservative enka (traditional, post-World War II pop music) scene by releasing several delicious nude gravure photobooks in the early 2000s.
A final sort of unrelated note: Maybe somebody out there recognizes my name from my previous blog, Asianbabecam Observer. I quit the entire cam girl scene and deleted the blog.
